After hours of prep work, they meet up with dozens of photographers waiting for them. Their families, cameramen, and major television stations will be there to cover the event. After spending a few hours outside City Hall, the youngadults are invited inside the hall for the mayor’s presentation to celebrate their coming of age and remind them that they have the right to vote. In the afternoon, they all go their separate ways to continue the celebration. Some of them went to town to shop, while others went home with friends and family to have a drink. This is a holiday for many people, giving them time to participate in the various events taking place in Tokyo. As expected, popular food stalls are everywhere, many of the main streets are closed, and cars have been replaced by street performers.
